Photography – Autumn

Published by

on

Hi everyone, it’s Robbie Cheadle here with you today with my September post in the Animal Photography section on LatinosUSA – English Edition. This month I am featuring photographs of Autumn.

Autumn animals by Robbie Cheadle

During autumn in southern Africa, the veld grass goes a beautiful reddish gold. I love going to the Pilanesberg National Park during May because it is so pretty. These photographs are from a trip during May 2024.

Hot Autumn (tanka)

no English garden

not a single rose in sight

African autumn

a blaze of gold and orange

glittering under hot sun

This poem is for Esther Chilton’s writing challenge which you can find here: https://estherchilton.co.uk/2026/09/16/writing-prompt-2/

Picture caption: A beautiful photograph of the Glencoe Lochan with its reflection in the still water

What Shehanne says about this photograph:

«The Glencoe Lochan was built by the man who drove the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway in at Craigellachie, British Columbia.  Lord Strathcona was from Forres in Scotland. and he built  the Lochan for Isabella Hardisty, the woman who had the courage to leave her abusive partner and along with her wee boy, seek his protection. He did it to remind her of the homeland she pined for. Despite that the couple returned to Canada, because her home was her home.  But the Lochan exists to this day and this was taken on a birthday trip, the funny thing being that the other end of  the glen was like the Arctic while here autumn had put on its finest colors.»

Autumn lake by Terri Webster Schrandt

You can find Terri and her wonderful photographic challenges on her blog here: https://secondwindleisure.com/2026/09/15/the-flower-hour-48-floral-abcs-featuring-stu-and-v/

Terri has contributed two beautiful photographs of a lake surrounded by autumn foliage in orange and yellow.

What Terri says about her photographs:

«2019 leaf reflections» was taken then when I was still teaching at Sacramento State University. The campus was full of autumn leaves, and I caught this while walking to my classroom near the banks of the American River in Sacramento, CA

The second one is what greets walkers on the Centennial Trail on Lake Spokane (here in Nine Mile Falls, Washington). Taken October 2023 when Autumn is at the peak color.

Laura Putman has a lovely nature blog. This is her introduction to her blog:

I am humbled by the magnificence and beauty of our planet, it is incomparable. I’ve loved and enjoyed nature since I was a young girl. I’ve been a serious photographer for over a decade. In 2012 I’ve developed this blog and dedicated my photography to wildlife, nature conservation and telling stories with my camera. Wild animals are naturally intertwined with the health of our ecosystem and vital to humanity’s existence. Our dependency on nature spans basic needs (food, water, oxygen) to cultural, spiritual, and mental health benefits, forming the natural heritage that supports human existence. It is my intention as a nature enthusiast to capture the essence of the natural world in the form of mindful, inspiring images to connect people with the sacredness of it all

I also write, I created a blog focused on being and living authentically, The Wisdom of a Woman’s Heart, if you’re interested, here is the link laurasusanputman.wordpress.com.

What Laura says about her photographs:

Aspen in Autumn was my first autumn in northern Arizona. I was struck by the white tree trunks and the coloful, delicate leaves and that they were in a row, I think of this scene everytime fall arrives.

The second image I call Transitions was captured in mid-September. I thought of summer green transitioning to colorful autumn when I saw these two trees crossing.

A walk in Autumn was taken in Indianapolis, it’s a nature trail for walking and biking, it stretches over several miles. For me, it was a breathtaking abundance of colorful nature in my favorite season.

Wow you certainly got a lot of gorgeous and colorful photos from several contributors. It is interesting to see all the autumn colors and the yellow veld. Here in north Texas it is green, well if there’s enough water, or burned brown/yellow. We’ve had 100+ (38C to 42C) in the afternoon pretty much every day the last two months. Wildlife and dogs are suffering.

I have read that the temperatures have been extreme in the northern hemisphere this summer. I suppose you will be going into autumn now and the temperatures will start dropping.

      1. Avatar de thomasstigwikman

That’s what I hope. Today 37 Celsius. The heat is still killing our tomato plants. But maybe it will be better next week.

        I hope so

@latinosenglishedition.blog Some nice images but maybe compress a bit less when you post as the compression smears detail and ruins their sharpness.

My pleasure, Andrew. WP kept turning your photographs sideways no matter what I did. Eventually I had to edit them as squares. It’s the second time I’ve had this problem recently and I don’t know why it’s happening.

Hi Pete, I like spring best but autumn is also beautiful. I do not like winter much. Although we didn’t have very cold weather, winter came early this year and is still lingering. We are getting a lot of rain. I can’t remember us having heavy rain in August and September before.

Perfect poem, Robbie, and I love your slide show. I always love seeing the animals you photograph, elephants, especially. And the fall photos are all stunning. 🧡

    1. Avatar de robertawrites235681907

Hi Lauren, thank you. I enjoy fall colours although I don’t like winter so autumn is not my favourite month. I love spring best.

A wonderful collection of autumn loveliness, Robbie! Fantastic photos submitted by the group. I’m proud to be a small part of tbe group of contributors!

I loved all your African scenes. That rich orange grass is stunning. I thought I added more info about the lake pics. Oh well, the autumn scenes speak for themselves.

Thank you for hosting this each week!

Thank you, Esther. I’m glad you found the poem as I posted the wrong link I think.

  30. Avatar de Dan (Steady Hands)

Your description of the veld grass turning a beautiful reddish gold really brings a warmth to the screen. I have never been to the Pilanesberg National Park, but these photographs and that lovely tanka poem make it easy to feel the heat of that African autumn sun. The line about there not being a single rose in sight but instead a blaze of gold and orange is a wonderful way to contrast it with a traditional English garden. It sounds like that trip in May 2024 was a beautiful experience. Thank you for sharing these bright images and the upcoming photography themes. It is a great reminder of how different autumn can look depending on where we are in the world.

    1. Avatar de robertawrites235681907

Hi Dan, thank you for your lovely comment. You are right, Autumn is very different depending on where you live.

  32. Avatar de Teri Polen

Autumn is my favorite season, so I love seeing these photos. We’re not quite there with the colors yet in KY, but hopefully soon. Rain has also been scarce this summer (none for the past month), so our fall might not be so colorful this year.

    1. Avatar de robertawrites235681907

It’s interesting about the lack of rain. We are getting rain now which is unusual for us. Long may it last 🙏🌈
