Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

                        Inspired by Pete Seeger

Years pass in fields picking daisy’s,
before you were a thought.
He loves me, he loves me not.

Where have all the flowers gone?

We plucked each petal, you, and I,
on a pinky swear, without a care,
of promises made on a whim,
and a blade of grass.

Where have all the flowers gone?

We birthed our babies in open fields,
love carried secret wishes,
hard work sustained us.

Where have all the flowers gone?

The sun has set,
our ships have sailed,
there’s not a petal to be found.
Jaded and desolate,
we bury them one by one.

Where have all the flowers gone?

We pray and bow our heads
on a pinky share,
stripped bare, blood shared.

Where have all the flowers gone?

Love’s promise that we shall meet again, sustains me.
Birds swoon on this fateful night,
feather’s dance floating midair.
Where have all the flowers gone?

The light of eternal love promises,
petals of fragrance,
In a prayer of protection.

Where have all the flowers gone?

Love germinates seeds,
for tomorrow’s cupid arrow,
straight to the heart.

The flowers burst with color once again!
