Hi everyone, it’s Robbie Cheadle here with you today with my September post in the Buildings & Architecture Photography section on LatinosUSA – English Edition. This month I am featuring photographs of creatures that slither.
I’ve decided to include the next four weeks of themes in each post so readers have more time to contribute to each theme.

I would love all the photographers out there to contribute. If you have a photograph to contribute to any of the above themes, please email me at cheadlerobbie@gmail.com and use the title Photography. Please also include a short write up about your photograph.
Snakes by Robbie Cheadle
I saw this snake at the information centre when TC and I visited Bukubung Bush Lodge in the Pilanesberg National Park.
Snake Eyes (American cinquain)
new route
snake eyes dice roll (1 and 2)
snaking line of stopped cars
distant robots unchanging red
snake eyes (3)
‘snake eyes’ has three meanings in this poem as follows: 1. As an idiom, the term means bad luck, a risky gamble that failed, or coming up empty in an effort; 2. In games like craps, rolling two ones is the lowest possible score and often results in losing the bet. The name comes from the single black dot on each die, which can look like a snake’s eyes; 3. intense gaze (a menacing, cold, or intensely focused look).
This poem is for David’s We Write Weekly poetry challenge which you can join here: https://skepticskaddish.com/2026/09/30/w3-prompt-231-weave-written-weekly/
Creatures that slither by Derrick Knight
Derrick Knight is a wonderful photographer and shares delightful book reviews and garden and home posts on his blog here: https://derrickjknight.com/
The snail photographs are from the following blog posts: https://derrickjknight.com/2014/05/25/a-pair-of-frogs/ and https://derrickjknight.com/2023/06/11/good-weather-for-snails/

The photograph of the newt above is from https://derrickjknight.com/2014/09/18/a-ploughing-contest/
Here’s what Derrick says about this photograph:
«As she was scraping earth from a building block that had been buried several inches down, Jackie disturbed a drowsy newt, hiding in a crevice. Very, very gingerly, she cleaned up the stone, and, with a trowel, transferred her amphibian friend to the side of one of our tiny ponds. She took the photographs herself.»
