Sometimes by Gopal Lahiri

Sometimes the summer sits heavy
on my city.

Sometimes I want to believe in daydream
to cast aside the weight of facts.

Sometimes I love to float like white clouds
above this faltering city.

Sometimes the tiger lilies’ slurp light
crowding the distant ponds.

Sometimes at the end of the day the
shadow starts walking with me .

Sometimes the luminous lamppost
ensnared in midnight’s grip.

Sometimes all lights retreat and the soul
torn in two.
