Herbert Hoover by Luisa Zambrotta

“Older men declare war. But it is youth that must fight and die.” (H. Hoover)

Herbert Hoover (August 10, 1874 –-1964), America’s 31st president, took office in 1929, the year the U.S. economy fell into the Great Depression. Even though his predecessors’ policies contributed to the crisis, Hoover bore much of the blame in the minds of the American people and was widely viewed as insensitive toward the suffering of millions of desperate Americans. As a result, he was soundly defeated in the 1932 presidential election by democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt.

“About the time we think we can make ends meet, somebody moves the ends.”
“Words without actions are the assassins of idealism.”
“There are things in the world that cannot be brought about. There are mistakes that cannot be repaired. But there is one thing sure — that loyalty and friendship are the most precious possessions a man can have.”

I knew most of this history but it was nice to have summarized so nicely and I did not know about these quotes. I like «About the time we think we can make ends meet, somebody moves the ends.«
