deseo by Katya Mills

Published by

on

life is like death without you

the sun always in the eyes

lost and blind i cannot

speak

.

i scratch a few sprawling words on a postcard

lick the stamp and mail it to my niece

then another. for my nephew

.

i thought i saw you by the pond

when i got close  you

slipped away with the turtles

underwater

.

time laughs in tongues

of bubbling paint and leaded dreams

what was ours

sinks into the earth inch

by inch

.

without you i am nothing

deseo

.

swept up chimney brick

marks my grave

fossil fuels blacken the sky

i punch my fist up into darkness

for light

.

deseo

come please

raise me from

the dead

.

capture my imagination

provoke it. feed it beans and

rice and release me into

what’s left of

the wild
