“Happiness as a religion” by Mykyta Ryzhykh

Another day when I pretend that this poem is needed by someone
And meanwhile stand there vomiting into the toilet the chocolate of loneliness
What else can you suggest to fill this emptiness in my chest, stomach, intestines, kidneys?
Every letter in my head turns into the first man I meet
Oh yes, I see my main love in him again
And yes, I am wrong again and bury my withered flower-palms
The toilet has stopped working and nothing can be flushed anymore
Oh, how I would like to flush down the drain all existing and dead time
But what will the water of the future give me tomorrow?
Nothing. This water is silent. Nothing
It’s the water that refuses to speak
And no one breaks the silence of my empty apartment
The umbilical cord of the clock hands squeezes my throat
The cashier at the supermarket asks me to show my passport
And I have nothing in my pockets except a couple of dollars and holes
In the distance, a young couple helps their son choose chocolate
Happiness like an infection fills the supermarket
