Famous Artworks – Resa and Robbie: The Impressionists – Manet and Cezanne

Hi everyone, it’s Robbie Cheadle here with you today with the September post in the Famous Artworks series on LatinosUSA – English Edition.

This post is another collaboration with the wonderful Resa McConaghy and features still life paintings by Claude Monet and Paul Cezanne. The photographs of The Tea Set by Claude Monet are by Resa and were taken during her visit to the the Art Gallery of Ontario to see The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse exhibition.

The photograph of La Table de cuisine by Paul Cezanne is mine and was taken during my visit to the Orsey Museum in Paris.

The Tea Set by Claude Monet

The Tea Set was created in 1872 by Claude Monet in the impressionism style. This painting captures the serene elegance of a simple moment.

Can you see how Monet captured the reflection of the teapot in the tray. Amazing!

La Table de cuisine by Paul Cezanne

This photograph is one of mine from the Orsay Museum in Paris.

Look carefully at this painting.

I was completely fascinated by this painting because the tabletop is impossibly tilted and some of the pots appear unstable on its tilted surface. Also, the grey pot and the fruit basket seem to be right off the surface of the table. Then there is the distortion of perspective. Look at the table, cupboard and chair on the left. They just look sort of wrong.

The explanation provided for this is that the distortions demonstrate Cezanne’s principal concern with geometric form and colour rather then reality and accuracy. I found this very disconcerting because I am a perfectionist. The distortions completely distract me from the painting.

I’m finishing this post with a smile. This is my Teapot and Dormouse in a Teacup cake. I made it for one of Mom’s birthday celebrations.

My name is Resa McConaghy. I’m a semi-retired Costume Designer for film and television.

My first Art Gown “Strawberry Kisses” was to create some beauty in my life after mom died. It was a hit with people, so I continued to make and post more “Art Gowns”.

At some early point, I began upcycling, repurposing and in general making the gowns out of any fabric or notions that were not new goods. I was using up anything headed for landfill.

    What a wonderful collaboration Robbie and Resa. I loved the paintings and the tea set and see what you mean about unstable.. I just would want to miss a drop of tea or the delectable fruit.. LOVE YOUR teapost too! xxx

    I love the teapot cake. It is a wonderful piece of art. It must feel terrible to cut it up such a piece of art. Monet and Paul Cezanne were certainly amazing artists. Resa is an amazing costume designer.
