Fingerprints by Gopal Lahiri

In this small untidy corner,

outside the eye’s reach,

in the remoteness left unspoken

so many times, your hands grasp

for air, so much perpetuity in a grain,

your child is not there, perhaps somewhere

taking shelter under summer shadows.

You dream the shadows, you run your hand

creating a flutter in the hibiscus petals,

you quiver navigating the mind’s scape

a momentary flame sets fire in twilight,

doing from the deepest, devoid of any

meaning, the clouds open their colorful

eyes, show the curved fingerprints of rain.
