Mark stomped on a bug. At four years old, he already followed in his father’s footsteps.
The sidewalk radiated heat waves. Mark was fascinated. He was equally fascinated by the hazy outlines of translucent creatures that wavered in the dirt-brown, smoggy air.
One of the creatures spoke. “That was the last ladybug in this world. The balance is destroyed.”
“We can do no more,” another creature said.
Mark watched as the creatures unfolded their wings and levitated into the sky.
That was the last thing he saw before the Earth exploded with a big bang.
