Most people work. And work is the worst thing imaginable. Work is awful.

The majority of people get up at seven so they can be at work by nine o’clock. Add commuting, and people are at work for ten hours a day. And that is only if they don’t have to take work home. Teachers spend hours every evening doing work. Why do people do it? Why do people work?

Money is too obvious an answer. People need and love money, but work has to offer more. Work gives people a chance to socialise.

People have friends in school, but when they finish school, those friends disappear.

Work is the best place to make new friendships. When people have jobs, they are around their colleagues for eight hours a day. That is loads of time for socialising and making friends. Having friends is the best thing in the world. Friends are people to talk to. They are people to go to the pub with. They celebrate one another’s birthdays. Friends are the only thing that makes work bearable
