Mountain Haiku

the low clouds
over the mountain
100 miles distant

hazy mountain
the housefly
on the window

leaving the mountain becoming clouds

last thunder
echoing on blue mountain
Feste’s voice

stratocumulus radiatus
a line of geese
toward long mountain

at the top of the hemlock where the mountain ends

just lying there
in the hyacinth wind
blue mountain

midsummer dusk the horizon lavenders the mountains

still no closer
to Sirius
mountain hike

disappearing past
the line of mountains
a line of geese

lilac wind
the day it will carry me
past the mountain

~~

Cloud Haiku

stuck
with a pin
distant stratus

cumulus humilis
a relentless wind
shakes the budded pears

cirrus intortus
no
means no

three steps
and a leap
stratocumulus sky

cirrocumulus noon
across the dune crest
claws of zarzaparilla

altostratus dawn
midsummer
hurkle-durkling

altocumulus clouds
stealing the last light
cricketsong

skeleton limbs holding what I cannot cirrostratus stars

dawn moving through the nimbostratus folds of her blue silk dress

cirrus fibratus
keeping my coffee mug warm
on the radiator

~~

White Haiku

scent of coolness
the white of cirrus through the white
of pear blossoms

deep spring
the down of maplecopters
the up of whiteflies

insect’s voice
a line of white pines
against a chain-link sky

the white pine shadow becomes the night crickets

cirrocumulus clouds as the yellow leaves the sycamore white

second snow
the white stillness at the end
of the foxprints

fothergilla
a white-crowned sparrow’s cry
deeper into itself

blazing star
a cabbage white approaches
the speed of light

cirrus evening the white farmhouse blues

a northeast wind settles
in a white rhododendron
painterly sky

~~

Color Haiku

false thaw green
the fawn in the shape
she fell in

stratus sky
an aster field begins
the grey

changing the locks
an empty sky
of endless blue

famous
for being famous
indigo stratocumulus

the penultimate movement
of the Turangalîla
pink everlasting

cul-de-sac
yellow daisies
on the trash truck

writing a haiku
with words that don’t yet exist
lavender contrails

the pale celadon
sprouting from the last onions
her crooked fingers

north wind
a swallow swoops
from the deep cyan

also the sound of the Atlantic violet moon

along the red pines
the fading
of dame’s rocket

megrim
the daylilies’ orange
persists past dusk

~~

Moon Haiku

a boar’s hair brush
loaded with titanium white
Atlantic moon

déja vu
a sliver moon
through a sliver
of curtain

new metals
the moon’s glistering
on the Susquehanna

I try
but I can’t help it
pinpoint moon

mouthing the words
of the Flower Sermon
nimbus moon

wineberry moon
a drop of blood waxing
on my thumb

megrim
a yellow moon rising out of clouds
into clouds

making ends
meet
sickle moon

racing stratus
the third quarter moon
joins the 27 club

coffee shop
the day moon
waits us out

at end of the day moon road

through the limbs
of the waning elm
the last bit of moon
