A variety of seeds by Robbie Cheadle

It is autumn here in South Africa so there are lots of seeds around. These are a few I’ve seen in my garden and while out walking.

Picture caption: Seeds of a magnolia.

The following four pictures of the seeds of the cycad plant in my garden. They are difficult to see in the full picture of the flower so I’ve also provided a few closeups.

A selection of seeds by Derrick Knight

Derrick Knight is a wonderful photographer and shares delightful book reviews and garden and home posts on his blog. You can find links to the related blog posts beneath each set of photographs.

Derrick has provided some wonderful seed photographs which feature in the gallery below. You can find some of his seed pictures in this post from his blog: https://derrickjknight.com/2023/08/16/seed-heads/

Pretty seeds by Laura Putman

Laura Putman has a lovely nature blog. This is her introduction to her blog:

I am humbled by the magnificence and beauty of our planet, it is incomparable. I’ve loved and enjoyed nature since I was a young girl. I’ve been a serious photographer for over a decade. In 2012 I’ve developed this blog and dedicated my photography to wildlife, nature conservation and telling stories with my camera. Wild animals are naturally intertwined with the health of our ecosystem and vital to humanity’s existence. Our dependency on nature spans basic needs (food, water, oxygen) to cultural, spiritual, and mental health benefits, forming the natural heritage that supports human existence. It is my intention as a nature enthusiast to capture the essence of the natural world in the form of mindful, inspiring images to connect people with the sacredness of it all

I also write, I created a blog focused on being and living authentically, The Wisdom of a Woman’s Heart, if you’re interested, here is the link laurasusanputman.wordpress.com.

Laura’s photographs

This first image is a Yellow Salsify transitioned to seed, the large yellow flowers bloom in early spring and by the beginning of summer they go to seed in these beautiful puffs.

This is a poppy I photographed in my sister’s garden in early fall as it went to seed with a honey bee taking the last of the pollen.

It is terrific to be reminded of how diverse seeds can be in size and texture and color. I continue to be amazed that these little objects can sprout and grow into something huge if given adequate resources. Thank you for this blog post.

I enjoyed all the photographs of seeds. The seeds of cycad plant look like an undersea creature. I have a vase of honesty seed heads on top of my china cabinet in the dining room.
