Hi everyone, it’s Robbie Cheadle here with you today with my June post in the People Photography section on LatinosUSA – English Edition. This month I am featuring photographs of people climbing.

People Climbing by Robbie Cheadle

The first two photographs are of my oldest son crossing a fast flowing river with the aid of a rope during a hike in the Drakensberg Mountains in South African in Jan 2025.

The second two photographs were also taken while hiking in the Drakensberg Mountain. These pictures are from October 2020 and feature, firstly, my younger son climbing down the path and, secondly, my older son and husband in the early stages of the hike.

My daughter’s family of four, my husband, and I went to Maui, Hawaii for eight days at the end of May this year. We went on a waterfall hike. The Makamaka’ole Falls Trail (13 Crossings) in West Maui takes about 2 hours to complete the 2-mile round trip. The trail is very narrow, rocky, and muddy. We brushed up against plenty of wet tropical plants as we climbed our way through this lush jungle on our way to the falls. The waterfall trail followed the stream into the valley until we reached the base of the falls. Part of the trail was on one side of the stream and part of it was on the other side. We hiked on the rocky trail until we reached a crossing. We crossed the water to continue the trail on the other side, then followed the trail until we reached another crossing and crossed the water to follow the trail. We were recommended to wear water shoes, unless we didn’t mind getting our regular shoes wet when stepping onto the rocks in the water at each crossing.

My granddaughters, 6 and 8 years old, were ahead of the four adults all the time. The younger one gave us a warning about the muddy parts. My older granddaughter was good at finding good spots without slippery rocks in the water for me to cross safely. After we reached the base of the first fall, many of us jumped into the water to enjoy the splash from the fall.
