Waterbuck and kudus by Robbie Cheadle
The waterbuck is a large antelope found throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Waterbuck prefer areas near water sources like rivers and lakes and this is how it got its name.
Waterbuck are know for the distinctive ringed markings on their backsides which look like a toilet seat. A waterbuck can jump as high as 6 feet if necessary although their preferred method of escape from predators is to retreat into water. Waterbuck can swim and will submerge themselves to hide from land predators.
Kudus are my favourite antelope. The males are magnificent with their long curling horns.

Two magnificent males
With great headdresses
Spar savagely while their femme fatale watches
They shove one another
With their spiral horns

Will this fight prove fatal?
Death from puncture wounds
Or from the interlocking of those huge horns
Leading to starvation
By both eager bulls
***
The winner will receive
Permission to mate
Before returning to solitary life
Roaming about dense bush
Until the next year

Kangaroo by Thomas Wikman
Thomas Wikman has two wonderful blogs. The first, https://leonbergerlife.com/, features amusing and heartwarming stories about his late Leonberger dog Bronco, as well as other Leonbergers. Thomas’s second blog, https://superfactful.com/, aims to create a long list of facts that are important, not trivia, and that are known to be true yet are either disputed by large segments of the public or highly surprising or misunderstood by many.
Thomas is a dog lover and I enjoyed his special book about his Leonberger which also includes entertaining stories about his other dogs. I love all animals so his blog is a must read for me.
What Thomas says about his picture including kangaroos taken in Australia:
Feeding Kangaroos in Australia. The kids are laughing because one of the Kangaroos grabbed the bag from their hands and spilled it, instead of waiting for a handout.
This is a wild Kangaroo in the blue mountains. I was taking a leak along the road. I walked into the forest a bit and stood by a bush taking my leak when I suddenly saw this kangaroo behind the bush. We both surprised each other.
