Channie’s latest book of poetry and art, “The Lion’s Share of Ourselves,” includes “Contrapuntal,” a poem that was originally published in Chewers by Masticadores!

Contrapuntal

Relational counterpoint, amid ample purulent discourse, seems to lack
Parochial, else insular links among family members. Meaning, too
Often rather that mild squabbles, personalities fulminate.

Independent melodic lines, like children differentiating from parents,
Jointly sounded, could create harmony, yet most familial cacophony
Results in vehement protests, dilatory, if not incomplete, healing.

Many polyphonic apparati frame long spans of progress as necessary
Dissonance, recombine into new, hopefully amended connections
Rather than bury bonds in verbal barrows, plain disagreements.

See, human sign-waves gather together when oppositely directed, or
When plutocracy among blood & bone associates governs. Whether
Rich in years, insights, or material goods, elders go disrespected.
