Valuing diversity by Susana Cabaço

In the variety of forms lies the richness of life. Diversity equates to value, and Nature epitomizes it beautifully and functionally. All of its bountifulness reflects that. Countless species and traits enrich the planet in unparalleled and fascinating ways. Oddly enough, humans choose to compare and copy one another instead of embracing and valuing their distinctive qualities. A habit quite outside the grander pattern of life, is it not? Existence doesn’t need two people with the same set of attributes and abilities. It needs variety, for it is in individual differences that the significance and advancement of life rests.

Contrary to the prevalent underlying belief, being different is not an anomaly or a weakness; it’s a gift. A gift that, when personally acknowledged and openly expressed, adds meaning to the Whole. Have you ever considered that you are different for a reason? What if that was the original divine intention of the Universe? Thought-provoking? Definitely! Life-changing? Possibly, especially if you start cherishing your uniqueness more unapologetically.

Self-appreciation, no matter how out of standard it seems or what others may think, is the first step toward grander change and fulfillment. Then, even the appreciation of others’ distinctiveness becomes a breeze. Thus, find ways of valuing your uniqueness, whether it is about your body, your perception, your empathy, or your personal assets and gifts. What makes you you makes you valuable. And when you embrace it wholeheartedly, the Universe can’t help but to smile amply, for its secret, sacred intention is being brought to light. You are then not only enriching the Whole but also fostering potential for more. How valuable is that?

«Existence needs variety, for it is in individual differences that the significance and advancement of life rests.» — that is certainly an important truth, something you as a marine biologist understand. There’s so many people misunderstanding «survival of the fittest» thinking that the most fit is a specific type of being that is a sort of evolutionary goal. The best, the purest, the strongest, the most fit. But that’s not how it works.

Absolutely, Thomas! Diversity of traits is what allowed species to survive when conditions change. A seemingly fitting trait may become totally unfitted if the environment shifts or a disease pops up. The individual differences allow the species to endure, and for them, those are the most important things. The continuation of the species is above the temporary existence of individuals. Very glad that this piece resonated with you, my friend. Thank you for your meaningful comment. Light and blessings your way, always! ✨🙏🍀
