The handsome soldier-boy
who once defied his diabolical enemy
became all but a crippled old man
lost in his home with a blanked-out identity
Confused over his curious electric-power
plus no great blaring of rickety propellers
along with no more ‘wind-up’ radios
nor beer barrels in the dark deep cellars
His sweet nurse dressed him in his servicemans uniform
the only thing that his mind still recalled
yet to her when chatting ‘this and that’
sadly speaking to him the poor girl often bawled
He got angry with his unpolished shoes
he hated to have a modern day shower
when what he wanted in reality
was to wallow in his tub for an hour
Yet one thing alone kept him breathing
that being winning the war that he fought
so proud the old trooper-boy that he was
so proud at the adversarys that he caught
To him the beginning of war was a young mans absurd pleasure
after which in battles many comrades died each day
all because of the tyrant Fuehrer Adolf Hitler
a stupid man who killed himself anyway
Those brave soldier-boys fighting that conflict
should never be erased from bygone days
lest we forget all that they did
and where good souls made sure of their praise
