Candlelight Concert by Robbie Cheadle

I attended a Candlelight Concert presented by a South African string quartet. The theme was The Beatles versus Queen. I preferred the Queen songs and knew them much better.

The two photographs below are of two of the musicians.

Musicians in Thailand by Darlene Foster

The following two pictures are of people playing instruments in Thailand. One is of a man playing a traditional Thai instrument at a roadside market. The other is of a modern band playing music at a restaurant. It was interesting to see the old and the new while I was there.

Cuff Billett New Europa Jazz Band by Derrick Knight

Derrick Knight has a fantastic blog that includes interesting book reviews, photographs, and family anecdotes. Derrick’s post describes a visit to the Bishop’s Waltham Garden Fair and the entertainment provide: Entertainment was provided by the Cuff Billett New Europa Jazz Band whose original stage beneath the spreading branches of an ancient tree against the backdrop of a colourful Japanese maple, was an example of the magnificent setting. 

After a while they went walkabout and performed amongst the stalls, some of which also had backdrops of flowering trees and shrubs.

Children playing instruments by Thomas Wikman

Thomas Wikman has two wonderful blogs. The first, https://leonbergerlife.com/, features amusing and heartwarming stories about his late Leonberger dog Bronco, as well as other Leonbergers. Thomas’s second blog, https://superfactful.com/, aims  to create a long list of facts that are important, not trivia, and that are known to be true yet are either disputed by large segments of the public or highly surprising or misunderstood by many.

This is an old photo from 1999. My two years old son borrowed my oldest son’s (5 years old at the time) violin. He attempted to play it as my older son was watching in the background holding a Pikachu.

During our Italy trip in June 2025, we visited San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known as a Medieval Town.

San Gimignano is a charming medieval town in Tuscany known for its well-preserved architecture. Between the 11th and the 13th century, the noble families and upper middle-class merchants who controlled the free town built 72 tower houses as symbols of their wealth and power, only 14 remain today. 

The town often features performances including medieval music and dramatic readings of historical literature like Dante’s Divine Comedy. Medieval musical instruments (c. 500–1400) comprised a diverse mix of string, wind, and percussion instruments categorized into «loud» (outdoor) and «soft» (indoor) types. Key examples include the stringed vielle, lute, psaltery, and hurdy-gurdy, along with wind instruments like the shawm, recorder, bagpipe, and pipe-and-tabor. The town’s 13th-century architecture provides an authentic setting for historical music.
