My review
This is the third collection of poetry I’ve read by this poet and it was equally beautiful and satisfying as the previous collections. D.L. Finn has a way of bring joy and deep peace into her poetry no matter its length. I find her poetry collections to be delightfully uplifting, a breath of fresh, clean air in a tumultuous and disturbing world.
The first section of the book, Gratitude Poetry and Photos, is devoted to haiku (which all focus on nature) and are accompanied by beautiful photographs. My two favourite poems in this section are as follows:
salty healing breeze
powerful pacific waves
my meditation
and
voices on the wind
whisper to the gentle trees
inspires wisdom
The second part of the collection, Poetry from No Fairy Tale, are memoir poems and follow the freestyle form. These poems centre around the poet’s deep love of and respect for nature. As a nature lover and animal activist poet, I found these poems to be healing and deeply satisfying.
A few extract verses from my favourite poems in the second section:
Colors
«The red so heavy its pulls me to the ground.
Orange reaches out, clinging, until it slips away.
The strength of yellow discharges through my flaws.
The sweet green wraps around ancient wounds.»
and
Summer
«Yes, summer seemed to go on forever
When I was young.
And that awe of endless days of wonder came so easy
Where smiles and excitement were abundant.»
I highly recommend this beautiful and joyous collection.
