«Fantasy» by Arshein Deticio
Living in what-ifs is living a thousand lies,
A falsehood we keep, a hopeful truth we cling to with closed eyes.
Holding onto could-have-beens, a traitor to our own hearts.
A bait in an innocent field of daisies, an alluring, wanna-be-flawless rose it is.
What-ifs are lies of our minds,
a daydream concealing a poisonous vine,
deadly and destructive—that I could bear endless times,
just so I could hold your hands tonight.
To myself, I would lie without hesitation,
to keep you mine.
I’d rather be chained with the what-ifs of being with you
than live a reality without you.
I’d befriend the pain to make it stay
the way I wished you did when you walked away.
That’s how I remember you, anyway:
A pain I’d beg to stay.
And now you’re miles away,
I couldn’t reach, couldn’t make myself sane.
Oh dear,
Will you lie with me,
beside me,
once again?
For another lifetime?
Lying on our fantasy, as if you are really mine.
But you’re—
we’re just a lie, I’d like to believe.
