Featuring Joni Caggiano

Rumor Damage

rumor is a spineless seed dipped in fertile shadow dirt
that multiplies and causes pain and unexpected hurt

silence, a bed partner that takes but never gives back
as a man tells a buddy how easy he got her in the sack

black spots jump off potatoes and out of a perfect dish
surviving boiling water and a blemish on an ideal wish

misfortune of a hammer that averted a four-inch nail
a hungry man begs for food and becomes a vulgar tale

her legs jump from flower to flower, hoping for a treat
for sleeping alone with her legs and scheming little feet

jealousy and deceit were the cause of their blue demise
scissors cut paper, and true words, well, their end is no surprise

An intriguing piece with Joni’s trademark imagery and flow. I was particularly moved by the image of the hungry man begging for food becoming «a vulgar tale.» A sad commentary on today’s world, where the poor and needy are dehumanized and used as political pawns by the wealthy. It’s always a pleasure to read Joni’s work, and this poem is no exception. Well done, Joni, my friend. 😊

Dearest Mike, Thank you my friend for reading me here on Latinosenglishedition. This is a sad piece indeed, and gossip and poverty run wild in the streets. I suppose that will always be the way of the world. I appreciate your kind comment and appreciate Francisco’s publishing this piece. I love the artwork that he used on this piece as well. Big hugs my friend.

That truly is a kind comment. Thank you again. I once heard a pastor say that gossip is like a feather pillow on a windy day. You take it up on a rooftop and shake all the feather’s out and watch them all blow away in the wind. You can never get them back. That is truly what gossip is and it is damaging to so many people who are good people. Thank you for all your support of Francisco all these years. We have a large collection of his artwork in our home and it truly blows people away when they see it. He is an amazing artist. He also supplied/gifted the artwork for my book.

Thank you Cindy, I am delighted you enjoyed the piece. Also, glad you liked the use of metaphors. Gossip is a horrible thing and I fear young children today have to deal with such terrible gossip and harassment from other children, especially on social media. Thank you for reading Cindy and your kind message. Big hugs and love, Joni

You’re so welcome! It was a really good post so important. It’s easy to get lost in the maze at all and sad that we’ve sent this standard that it’s the north when it really shouldn’t be. I’m glad you’re speaking out about it and as always, your words are so meaningful exclamation. Hugs and love back to you too Dear💕🎉💕 Joni

Dearest Tiffany, Thank you so much for reading me here.

Gossip is a dangerous thing that hurts many people. My experience is that a lot of gossip grows from jealousy, which is so sad. We should be happy for those who succeed, but often that is not the case. Big hugs and lots of love my friend.

Yes, their end is no surprise.

Gossiping is a disease, like alcoholism. You always crave more of the high.. the faux glory and power.

Yours are the words of sobriety, Joni. Thank you so much for writing!
