Thinking while Shuffling by Tina Hudak

Published by

This morning, just as light is breaking

I awake with a slight cough, wondering

if I have five years left to live. Bits and

pieces of me are failing each year.

Nothing dire, mind you, but we both

know this all adds up in the end. Not

well, either.

By now, on this very morning, I

have outlived six dogs and five

cats; the sixth feline is on his last

leg. So, the thought crosses my

mind as I shuffle in soft moccasins

across the pine floor – it will not be

such a bad thing to greet these

four-legged friends again.

Somewhere.

Sometime.
