Where Do Guardian Angels Come From?
By Minette Aralar
I wonder, as I walk on the sidewalk of the busy road of Ortigas Avenue one morning,
With the intermittent honking of vehicles in my ears
Do guardian angels fly by, hovering around unseen?
Do they precipitously guide the elderly peeps,
As they cross the busy, early morning rush-hour avenue,
Protectively ushering them to the other end
Without scratch from the passing wheels, dared to be with scathe?
Or do they conscientiously remind the drivers,
To step on the brakes
To avoid traffic mishaps
That’ll surely alter the dutiful morning flow of a busy life…
As always on a dusty road.
How about me? Who could my guardian angel be?
I wonder whose inner voice I hear in my thoughts,
As I walk or cross the road.
Whose presence I feel,
While fulfilling my day’s arrears
And sheds an afterthought,
Probably as a warning
Or an inspiration
As I wade through life day in, day out.
Have you ever wondered of our dearly departed loved ones?
If they really left our side, upon crossing over to the afterlife?
Maybe they are the ones who are whispering in our inner thoughts
In the quietest moments,
Or in the brink of daylight.
Maybe that is why, some of us
Whose fathers or mothers bequeathed their earthly lives
Moved on and joined the stars above
To serve as our guiding light
Be it in our darkest night
Or in the perils of our daily life.
