Forest for the Trees (a Return) by Laura Bennett

Returning to the forest

After a long while

Rustling breeze of trees

Always make me smile

The first time I came

Among season of Spring

With deep green leaves

And blue birds that sing

Now darker upon Autumn

The air is mysterious

Leaves turning red

Fleeting animals less curious

Hibernation for the soul

Preparing for winter’s storm

Earth’s soil frozen below

To re-emerge once more

Time fades away slowly

Cycles of life and death

Stillness within solitude

Take a weary last breath

Branches cracking underfoot

Song of water’s flowing calm

Scents of crisp, cooler air

Touch of dirt upon my palm

Messages still the same

Listen closely to falling leaves

I’ll forever feel at home

In the forest among the trees

Laura, this is beautiful. Trees have the same effect on me, too.
