Juan Re Crivello: Do you think poetry is back in fashion?
Robbie Cheadle: I don’t think poetry ever goes out of fashion for people who appreciate the genre. Poetry has always appealed to selected people and not necessarily to the masses. I believe that remains unchanged.
J. R. C.: Is your poetry created daily, or do you wait to be inspired to write it?
Robbie Cheadle: I participate in a lot of poetry prompts and challenges and I also like to write for themed anthologies. I find it helpful to focus on a photograph or suggestion when I write poetry. I do also sometimes write poetry based on a thought or something I see on the street or experience in life.
J. R. C.: What is your next publishing project? Could you tell us how it came about?
Robbie Cheadle: I have four poetry projects in various stages of completion. One project is a collection of seasonal poems entitled A Seasonal Journal in 52 weeks. The poems are all about South Africa, its weather, flora, and fauna. Another project is a collection of poems, including several written by my son, Michael, This and That. The poems are all about daily experiences in life. The third project is about my childhood growing up in South Africa and the fourth is called Doors and Other Extraordinary Things.
J. R. C.: What city do you live in, and can you describe your favorite bar or café?
Robbie Cheadle: I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I enjoy a monthly watercolour painting class at a local restaurant. I often have lunch there after the class with my art friends.
