«Timeless» by Eia Reyes

Have you ever wondered what makes time, time? I don’t mean to confuse you, but what if there’s actually no time? Only the human mind and the universe tell you to live your life counted by years. They tell you to wake up every morning and the first thing you should do is check the time and tell you to hurry up because you’re damn late. They keep on telling you to live by dates and months. What if there were actually no Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, and the only living concept is the movement of the sun? The entire universe tells you to beat those deadlines, those weekly projects, where the only existing thing is there are no deadlines at all, so you don’t need to hasten things. What if time does not really exist? What if?

Well, maybe we have lived a life differently. We have opened our eyes every single morning without thinking of the deadlines, working hours, overloading school projects, tight schedules, or even celebrations like birthdays. Maybe we’ve been keeping ourselves busy thinking about our dreams for we are not afraid of tomorrow. We’re busy looking up at the stars and the moon for we are not worried about sleeping late and getting up late. We’re more like humans, probably. We have lived a life without the restrictions of numbers, of measurement. But we have lived a life with the matters of the heart.

The sun, moon, and seasonal changes mark time. In retirement, time and dates are second to my migratory movements to enjoy the weather more suited and comfortable for my lifestyle.

I really enjoyed reading this piece because, in some ways, once we become retired, we can enjoy life without the constant deadlines that both of us once had.

We can do many of the things you mention. We can ignore the clock to a great degree and not deal with work, which often requires a minimum of ten hours of work, and then your commute. There is a lot to be said about this piece and I appreciate this work. We are slaves or become that way often to jobs in the corporate or government work. Women, especially because we often have to prove ourselves more than the men and that means more hours and better work.
