What we once thought we had we didn’t

Go ahead, try & remember him/her
time/place, sights/scents.

Listen to the hum of an amp, the first 
popclick when needle hits groove,

the sounds of ghosts taking form, ready
to become reimagined.

Memories are kaleidoscopic, shambolic; 
music never lies.


The Waitress=Dylan & U2

We used to be simple, second nature, 
like sucking in breath at sub-zero temps 

or falling in love 
with the wrong person. 

We never forgot where we were,
needed to not see each other anytime soon. 

The grass stopped growing, 
a perfect forgetfulness;

it was lonely in the shower that morning.

Author’s Biography

Alex Stolis has had poems published in numerous journals. Two full length collections Pop. 1280, and John Berryman Died Here were released by Cyberwit and available on Amazon. His work has previously appeared or is forthcoming in Piker’s Press, Ekphrastic Review, Louisiana Literature Review, Burningwood Literary Journal, and Star 82 Review.
