I couldn’t help thinking we were wasting time, but my brother wanted to show me this glow stick he found. It had a different color for each segment corresponding to the colors of the rainbow –a rainbow glow stick. When you tossed it in the air it fanned out, unfolded into a radiant display. We thought it was pretty sweet but after the second toss we still hadn’t decided where to eat. Then the stick did this twirling thing all by itself –blossoming in a glowing dance of multicolored panels. It only lasted a second. In its place was a girl. She seemed to know who we were. My brother started talking to her and she was very friendly –even sat close to me when she sat between us on the couch. My brother was so overcome he went in his room for two hours. I said that’s the longest he ever stayed in his room –but then I thought it sounded like I was criticizing him. She didn’t seem to see it that way. It was as though she liked us and hoped we’d like her. Her hair was dark but everything else about her was bright and shiny. She was kind of like a glow stick.
