BLACK FOAM
Stones rose from the sea,
pitted and carved with fossils.
We floated to shore.
Sand burned our feet.
We shook off the water.
The light scavenged our skin.
The broken ceiling still held the chandelier,
crystals chiming.
Pieces of a martini glass on the floor,
one shard etched with our initials
Black foam surrounds rocks
and they recede into the sea.
Our backs turned to the water,
we pushed down the salt-eaten door.
We stepped on the broken glass.
Our blood stained the tiles.
