ON ANY GIVEN DAY by Jeffrey Zable

As I write this, I’m growing older,

not so much so that you’d notice it,

but I notice it because I’ve been

thinking about it— how wherever I am

and whatever I’m doing brings me closer

to that inevitable place.

And thinking of that inevitable place

sometimes scares me, and other times

it gives me comfort, depending on how

I’m feeling.

Presently, feeling a bit depressed and anxious,

I’m just trying to ride it out like I usually do

on any given day.
