“Under the Radar” by Roy Eisenstein

I came in just under the radar
All dressed up in invisible ink and misdirection

My pockets jammed with excuses and alibis
My heart safe in its holster

All my mistakes and foolishness came home in echoes of accusations
Choruses of petty angels with their passion for inflicting injury

It’s true I used to get mixed up in some things outside the lines
My crowd was kind of dicey then
But I guess things turned out alright

I mean you’re innocent if you don’t get caught

I use the night as my refuge
A kingdom of shadows where the darkness tells the eyes only half truths
Where imagination is king
And you can believe anything you want

I used to be a guy who would draw maps with words
My wild ideas made my compass dervish
And so I was always lost

But you can’t be found if you don’t get lost
Am I right or am I right?

And my urban side street soul wanders endlessly
Down in the subway subconscious where the cryptic graffiti can’t be deciphered
Where questions rattle around
And I think I hear a saxophone crying
And we’re trying to go home

Oh yeah, I’m a paper plane in a storm drain
Some prayers written on my wings
Stuck
And when the tears of rain comes
My message will bleed and run away

But I came in under the radar
Just a whole lot of secrets that no one wants to know
