Sacred Skylights By Gopal Lahiri

I wanted to reach the heaven with my

borrowed ladder,

soaking in the form of stillness

I found the moon too rough;

cut at all the edges.

Night green with pale blue

hurled unnamable things,

after a while-

I woke up with my land

cornered at the pressure points.

Missing a wall or some edges,

looking lighter than I thought,

the murky ant chambers shrinking

and collapsed in the mound,

the laid-back owl groping in the dark

I flicked a few mango leaves

and rode the wind to have a glimpse

of sacred skylights in the heaven.
