bronzed bodies lie in full sun. Ignoring
beach umbrellas in the sand
skin cancers paradise
others splash, ten-deep, at the waterline
overcrowding which spoils most
summer celebrations
car parks full, the tarmac soft and tacky
boots sticking, guards tolerate
scorching summer sunshine

“Prison View” by Nolcha Fox
Hot, dry air propels me,
hour to hour, through the day.
The garden on exhibit
from the windows in each room.
We all want to flee the heat
that melts us to the pavement.
The butterflies are gossips.
They let me know the latest.
The flowers plan a prison break
when clouds obscure the sun.
I would love to join them,
but the windows will not open.
