I saw a man hunched, fingers bunched, and eyes scrunched,
frantically hunting for his lost home. Where were his roots?
Had he tumbled into anonymity?
He looked ruefully at his muddy boots, his heart aching,
recalling the notes of the love- ditty
he used to sing with his beloved under the tree.
Had that tree been uprooted too- their favorite rendezvous?
Why this hysterical hatred? He mulled,
eyes fixed at the azure blue of the sky, and sighed,
touching the crowfeet under his eyes.
His ears buzzed. His head swam.
“Oh come on, do you really think you will find your moorings?”
He gaped in consternation, as he saw nature assuming a cruel façade,
hurling a cold douche at him.
Distraught, he remembered the roses in his garden swaying
in the fragrant breeze.
Ah, he shuddered. Through half- closed eyes,
he saw some tired petals had fallen to the ground.
And now were flying hither and thither.
Refugees.
