While You’re Dreaming Away

A million screens scream a million things
With the truth locked away in one
Your head’s about to explode
Going through words and code
To get a sense of what is going on

Close all the screens and phones
Take some time to be alone
Forget about who and what is
dragging you down
Pull the covers over yourself
Shut your eyes, block out cries
You can’t save everyone
If you didn’t get rest,
lie down and dream away

The Internet’s demanding too much from you
The whole world won’t stop spinning for you
The news flows in and out, replaced by a new thing
Good or bad, you’ll hear about it tomorrow
After all, no one will shut up about losing the war

You can’t do much when you’re half-awake
You can’t save anyone without your strength
So, rest well tonight
as they strip you of your rights
while you’re dreaming away

Yes, rest while you can
Drift off into a different land
Forget about this awful world
while you’re dreaming away.

Through The Frosty Glass

As I peer through the frosty glass
Eyes squinting, vision blurred
Past the mounds of white snow and ice
Beyond the gnarled black branches
Far beyond my empty white yard
I see a warm green light

Pulsing and growing bigger
It beckons me to come out.
A child’s voice cries and giggles
Through the frosty window
Cracking through the silence
It calls me

Come out and play.
Play with me.

My hands reach the doorknob
My feet shuffle on the mat
I stay still and shake my head
As the light glows

Come out and play.
Play with me.
I’m so alone.

My hands grab the knob
And unlock the door as wind blows in
Cold air blasts in my face as I walk
The frosty landscape greets me
And the light in the distance pulses

Come out and play
Play with me.
I’m so alone.
Won’t you come with me?
It’s time.

Step by step, I move forward
Forge through frost and snow
My body freezes as the light blinks
Stepping closer, it grows brighter
Pushing through the snow, I reach out
As the voice and the light drag me in

Come out and play
Let’s play in the snow
I’ve been waiting for you
I want to play in the snow
It’s time.

Flakes cling to my lashes
Frost hangs off my hair
And the green light flashes
As I’m lost in the winter
And playing in the snow

People Turn to Ice

When time stops for a second,
The people turn to ice
Their bodies freeze
blood grows cold
Voices caught in throats
As they struggle to speak
Their words are gone
their thoughts blank
It’s their time to stand up
Their time to push back
Yet they’re frozen in place
Their pale bodies shake
They cannot get the words out
Their bravery gone, they cannot speak
And they’re dying to survive
