Review of Annie Sokoloff’s “Oh! So Many Balls” by Nolcha Fox

I giggled all the way through Annie’s book, “Oh! So Many Balls,” because it was funny and so relatable. The book sheds light on all the relationships women have to juggle to avoid a cerebral hemorrhage.

Annie masterfully points out the differences between men and women. But she’s quick to point out the ways wives can navigate the differences to keep a marriage going strong. Behind every good wife is a group of like-minded girlfriends to support each other through the chaos.

I said “Yes!” to “I Took Out the Trash, so Where’s My Gold Star.” Annie has a great solution to the problem of a husband wanting to be recognized for completing one chore, while ignoring everything his wife does.

And “Yes!” to “I’m Not Your Beck and Call Girl.” I am not the only wife whose husband talks to her when she’s in another room, and expects her to drop everything to find him to continue the conversation.

I also saw myself in “Driven to Perfection.” My husband insists on driving around and around to find the closest parking spot, while I park in the first parking spot I can find. Find out what Annie says.

Both men and women have hobbies (or obsessions) that can redirect the trajectory of a good marriage. For Annie’s husband, it’s golf. For Annie, it’s shopping. Check out “There’s Snow on My Golf Course,” “But I Have a Tee Time!” “I’ve Got Two Words for You,” and “To Shop, or Not to Shop: Is it Even a Question?”  for a taste of how a couple can survive each other’s passions. Annie offers more chapters on this important topic, and you’ll enjoy all of them.

As we age, our relationships change. Children grow up, marry, and have grandchildren. How do we keep them close when they live far away? Read “What Am I, Chopped Liver?” and “Is That a Spot I See on the Ceiling?” for some wisdom.

Unfortunately, our bodies also change with age. Ask any woman! So how do we drop 10 pounds and 20 years? Find out what to do in “My Cups Runneth Over.”

Laughter is the best medicine. You’ll feel so much better after you read Annie’s “Oh! So Many Balls.” And let her know I sent you.

Annie has a great sense of humor, so I enjoyed reading the book without screaming (much). That gold star thing — it resonates with me, too.
