The story in FINDING CRISTINA takes place in 1924 Rio de Janeiro. The plot has mystery, romance, jealousies, unrequited love, a singular duel and a riotous attempted kidnapping. After her father died of a long illness, Cristina was left with debts, and an ailing mother. Undaunted, she breaks up with patriarchal conventions of that time and finds work. A mystery related to her past—of which she is unaware—will emerge and will change her life forever. But before that, much will happen. And Cristina’s real story is only revealed at the very end of the novel. Funny, with a drop of mystery and a diverse cast of characters, Finding Cristina is a tale of two people finding love and happiness while not looking for it.

“The early sunlight plunged its fingers into the cobalt-blue sea—the sea the Portuguese explorers thought was a river. It sprinkled the wave tops, exploded with a myriad of diamonds that crashed upon the coast’s soft sand. Slowly the light spread toward the sidewalk where little black and white stones mimicked waves and sand. The sun reached the asphalt then reflected against the relatively sparse large houses that fringed the thoroughfare, facing the sea. The beach is Copacabana; the thoroughfare is Atlântica Avenue; and the sidewalks, in the future, would become the symbol of that Brazilian city: Rio de Janeiro. Rio, the city where dwell the Cariocas —the Tamoio indians’ word for the stone house the white man built around 1503 on the mouth of the homonymous river.”
