Hi everyone, it’s Robbie Cheadle with you today and I’m introducing my new series called Artforms and Artists from Around the World.
I am inviting all artists who engage in any and all forms of art to share your world with LatinosUSA. To schedule an artforms interview, you can email me, Robbie Cheadle, at cheadlerobbie@gmail.com. You need to title your email Artforms and Artists from Around the World. LatinosUSA only accepts art and artforms created by humans so no AI generated artworks please.
As this is the inaugural post for this series, I am sharing about myself and my cake and fondant artworks.
Robbie Cheadle, the Baker and Cake Artist
I have always been artistic and as a young girl I led my three sisters and my friends in artist endeavors. These took numerous forms including a memorable dolls house made from a wooden tomato box, paper dolls and a wardrobe, a Christmas tree decorated with homemade decorations, T-shirts painted by hand, and a few books illustrated by my sisters and myself.
As a young mother, my art took the form of cake and fondant art. I made numerous cakes in a large variety of themes for numerous occasions, some special and some just for fun.
I am going to share three of my favourite cake artworks with you today.
Working From Home – Covid 19 Memory Cake

This cake was intended to capture the days of working from home during the Covid 19 lockdown periods. The cake, a loaf sponge cake covered by a plain white table cloth, depicts a family working from home at the dining room table. The strain has turned the parents into monsters. The father is a beast and the mother is a snake woman. The father is seated in a chair made from chocolate and is wearing slippers, shorts, and an office shirt. He is holding a cellphone and has two laptops. The mother has a long, lashing tongue and also has a cellphone and two laptops. Their son is depicted as a robot-like creature with huge eyes from staring at a computer screen all day. He is wearing a headset and has a tablet on his knee.
Tutankhamen Mask Cake

This Tutankhamen Mask Cake was for an Egyptian themed birthday part for my oldest son. I’ve included it here as it time consuming and difficult to make. Each gold piece was cut out of rolled white fondant separately, painted gold, and glued with edible glue to the blue mask base. I did it that way to create a 3-D illusion for the mask. I used a Tutankhamen Mask template that I found on Pinterest and traced it onto baking paper. I then cut out each piece and let it dry before painting it with edible gold paint. They eyes are Smarties painted gold and the background is black buttercream icing sprinkled with edible silver glitter. I made all of the pyramids using tempered chocolate and a pyramid mould.
Life-sized Guitar Cake

I made this cake for my younger son’s 18th birthday. Michael is a guitarist and so a life-sized guitar cake seemed an appropriate cake to celebrate this milestone birthday. I traced Michael’s guitar onto baking paper and used these to cut the three large rectangular sponge cakes I made to the correct sizes and shapes. It was an interesting exercise as the cake was so big, I had to assemble it in parts using four cake boards. I iced each section separately using coloured buttercream icing and then placed each board and part together making sure they all aligned properly. I traced the section painted gold onto baking paper and cut it out of fondant. Once completely dry, I painted it gold. The headstock and bridge pins board are also made of painted fondant.
