Vast Ocean by Danna Garbida

I’m in the middle of saving myself
in the vast ocean.
Somewhere to be found
Crying out loud
Fighting for my life in the high tides.
Holding myself to keep pushing and swimming.
I know I can,
I know from me that I can do it alone.
I know that I can save myself from drowning.
I believe in me.
I’m trying my best to show them that I am doing great.
That I can survive from anything,
even in the vast ocean.
Even if no one saves me,
I don’t care.
I’m a great swimmer,
they know that.

The rain poured,
a storm coming from the east.
I saw a near seashore,
I’m almost there.
The temperature dropped.
I don’t feel my bones anymore,
My hands are strong yet now it numbs.
My eyes are still looking at the seashore.
Yet I feel like I need to close it down.
I’m catching some air
All I want is to breathe for a while,
Can I?
I smiled for a bit.
showing them that I could do it.
I need to survive that is all in my mind.
Yet I’m already tired.

As the rain poured down on my face
I lay down for a bit,
I wait for it to stop.
I wait, I wait, and keep on waiting.
My body keeps on flouting.
Until it finally stops pouring,
The sun stings my eyes as it rises.
Mesmerized by its wonder.
Its orange shades,
makes me crave orange juice.
Its yellow body,
makes me remember my favorite song.
I sat down for a while,
Hugging my trembling knee,
Gripping the sand on my feet,
Only to realize that I finally made it.
