“Into the unknown” by Ritu Negi

Jittering heart and sweating palms,
Out of the box, both my legs and arms,
Over the top, into exile I jump,
Insomniacally, snoozing all my alarms.

What’s the picture?
Where is the map?
Where are you going,
What if it’s a trap?

With the weight of these questions
and doubt of my own,
I tripped over planning before,
So now I’m stepping into the unknown.

It’s all dark, and I am all weary,
Surrounded by the mountains, I’m in the valley.
Now is the present, and tomorrow is a surprise,
Nights are scary, but my delusions are paradise.

I hope it’s gonna be worthwhile,
Living for the sunrise.

I really like this poem. I feel it can be read different ways – either as a metaphor for life in general, or simply beginning each day and wondering if I’ll be prepared for what it brings.

And to the one who gave my poem a home on your page. Thank you from the depths of me. Sharing my work is not just about words, it’s about trust, kindness, and believing that poetry deserves to travel beyond where it was born. You’ve made that possible, and I’ll always be grateful for the space and light you offered my writing.
