«Poetry is ALWAYS in Fashion. It Never Goes Out of Style.» – Kristine Joy Verdeflor Scianneaux
MAN : Do you think poetry is back in fashion?
KJS : Poetry is ALWAYS in fashion. It never goes out of style. It never fades away. Poetry is the reason why lots of readers continue to read books. It is also because of poetry, imagination and inspiration are taken greatly by writers. Poetry is not popular to all, but it is always in vibrant, colorful and black & white fashion ideas of the mind.
MAN : Do you write poetry daily, or do you write as ideas come to you?
KJS : I don’t write poetry on daily basis since I have my own work schedule, and I am a very busy independent woman. I write as ideas pop up in my mind. I find inspiration in my daily life though, and I always make sure that if my light bulb of imagination pops up, I intend to write in down asap on a sticky note or on one of my many devotional note pads, with bible verses on the bottom of each page- reminding me to pray as well.
MAN : What is your next publishing project? Could you tell us how it came about?
KJS : My next publishing project is all about the JOYS OF LIVING. Me and my sister, Jen is working on this new book we called, “Joys of life”. It came as my idea to express happiness to readers and influence them to have a better life in the simplest form of living, like riding a bike, flying a kite, and even sleeping. When I published, “A Poetry Bucket List: Treasures on Your Bookshelf”, I didn’t expect it will be a hit especially to my family and friends and mostly bought through word of mouth here in America. So, my sister wanted to become popular too and wanted to write a book with me, so we decided to take our dreams into action, and it is God’s work in progress right now. We just take time to make it into another masterpiece to read.
MAN : The city you live in, and a description of your favorite bar or café.
KJS : I live in the state of Louisiana where culture and diversity are well-known. I’ve been here more than eight years in the city of Lafayette, where you can smell the aroma of gumbo, crawfish etouffee and shrimp or catfish po’boys, The food is very delicious here, the flavors are loud and tasty. Crawfish and Crab boils are common. Oysters are a must. We are well known of Mardi gras celebration, and we give drinks to the crazy and parade them on the streets of New Orleans. We have yearlong festivals. You name it, frog festival, strawberry festival, boudin festival etc. The people here are happy, and we really treasure our roots and family, just like in the Philippines. The southern hospitality is real.
My favorite coffee shop is called Jet Coffee. And my go-to drinks are Queen bee breve latte and medium Blended matcha with a shot of expresso and oat milk. I called it my dirty matcha. I love this local coffee shop so much that I even wrote one of my brewing poems in my debut book, about it.
“While You Still Can”
Part I
Life is short,
Drink that Milkshake.
Eat that cake.
Fly high
Travel
Hold on to your passport,
Collect stamps,
Learn a new culture.
Sip that coffee,
Talk to a stranger,
Somewhere in Paris.
Blend in with the locals,
Try some street food.
Spend your money,
Buy your dream car,
Drive.
Invite your lover,
Get lost.
Go to places you’ve never been,
Create a playlist,
Don’t stop
Take chances.
Get out of your closet,
Never take it for granted.
Try something new,
Book a boxing class—
Sweat it out!
Do some burpees,
Release it all.
Be you,
Love yourself.
Curl that hair,
Wear make-up,
Be pretty.
Again, love yourself.
Have fun!
Be adventurous.
Take risks,
Face your fears.
Do a bungee jump,
Dive deep.
Explore new horizons
Parasail,
Even skydive.
Shout it out!
Be loud.
Conquer.
Aim high.
Reach for your dreams.
Nothing is impossible.
Be merry,
Dance
Do the moonwalk,
Join the line dance
Giggle
Kiss your person,
Hug ‘em tight.
Don’t let them go,
Cherish the moment
Say “I LOVE YOU”
While you still can,
Enjoy life.
