«Good Things Come in Small Packages» by  Jolene Rice

JRC : Do you think poetry is back in fashion?

JR : Personally, I don’t think poetry ever went out of fashion. I do think poetry is being talked about more in the mainstream. I hope people are learning that poetry is a great way to express all the things that you can’t or choose not to say. Perhaps someone may not know how to put their feelings into a form of verbal communication. Poetry allows for a deeper method of expression and connection.

JRC : Do you write poetry daily, or do you write as ideas come to you?

JR : As ideas come to me; a picture, an event or just random thoughts can inspire a poem.

JRC : What is your next publishing project? Could you tell us how it came about?

JR : My next collection of poems will be: Good things come in small packages. As our attention spans get shorter, I’m hoping to show that short form can still be expressive. All the poems in this collection will be 6 lines or less. It’s still a work in process. It is my hope to have it ready by the end of this year, 2025.

JRC : The city you live in, and a description of your favorite bar or café.

JR : London, Kentucky USA, is a smaller town with a population just over 8,000. London is a beautiful town with lots of natural options to offer. Our town is located perfectly along I75 with Knoxville, Tennessee, USA and Lexington, Kentucky USA (2 bigger much cities) approximately an hour and a half drive in either direction (north or south); for when residents need big city destinations.
I honestly don’t have a favorite bar or café.

Lungs burning
Yelling
Screaming

Fist pounding
Yelling
Screaming

Lungs burning
Screaming
Blood pumping

The voices in my heart
silenced by the voices in my head.
Screaming

Lungs burning
Tears streaming
Screaming

Curled up in a ball
Stomach churning
Screaming

Lungs burning
Throat sore
Screaming
