«Where Have The Fireflies Gone?» by Winnie

A thin veil of gloaming covered the verdant groves

as it devoured the remaining daytime

I stood alone scanning the horizon

and began to have flashbacks of the olden days

when a lanky lass me basked under the same twilight 

but under the canopies of scattered custard apple trees

too carefree and unafraid of the cast eerie shadows

for I have glimpsed the lightning bugs frolicking on the dark

while crickets sang a cacophony of tune 

and my mama’s sweet voice prodding me to go inside

now sweet memories gone

until all that is left

a wistful thinking of where the years have gone

and where the fireflies have gone

Author’s Bio

Rowena Liwanag-Suarez obtained a degree in Psychology but has since shifted her focus to pursue her passion for writing poems and stories.
