«my old dog’s gone deaf» by John Yamrus

my old dog’s gone deaf

it happened
practically
overnight.

the vet says
sometimes it
happens that way.

she’s not
in any pain,

and
it doesn’t
seem to bother her.

when she’s
out in the yard,

and i
call her
to come in,

she
sits there,

and
stares at me.

same
as always.

sometimes,
i even forget
she can’t hear me.

actually,
she never really
listened to me, anyway.

in
that respect
her behavior
hasn’t changed one bit.

it seems
old habits die hard.

i’m
just glad
old dogs do, too.

This one tugged at my heartstrings. Everyone who has ever had a dog can relate!

Beautiful lines that I can relate to because even my old Sissi has become completely deaf 🐶

We become a bit lost without our dogs, this piece reminds me of how much I miss my support doggie. She never left my side, and I sure miss that sweet girl. Your dog looks sweet. Thank you for sharing.
